Petco Love Invests in Lifesaving Equipment

Grant of $7,500 will provide important medical equipment to extend efforts to save more animal lives in Multnomah County

Troutdale, OR (April 26, 2021) – Multnomah County Animal Services (MCAS) announced it has been awarded a $7,500 lifesaving grant from newly named, Petco Love, to support their lifesaving work for animals in Multnomah County

Petco Love is a nonprofit leading change for pets nationally by harnessing the power of love to make communities and pet families closer, stronger, and healthier. Since their founding in 1999 as the Petco Foundation, they’ve empowered organizations with nearly $300 million invested to date in adoption and other lifesaving efforts. And, they’ve helped find loving homes for more than 6.5 million pets in partnership with Petco and more than 4,000 organizations, like ours, nationwide.

“Today Petco Love announces an investment in Multnomah County Animal Services and hundreds of other organizations as part of our commitment to create a future in which no pet is unnecessarily euthanized,” said Susanne Kogut, President of Petco Love. “Our local investments are only one component. This month, we will also launch the first of our national tools to empower all animal lovers to drive lifesaving change right alongside us.”

“We are grateful for the support of Petco Love to improve the lifesaving capacity, safety, and treatment efficiency of our Animal Hospital surgery operations,” said Wade Sadler, Director of Multnomah County Animal Services. “Specifically, this generous grant will purchase a new, industry-standard Shor-Line kennel system to allow for safe and comfortable animal housing pre-surgery and during recovery in the surgery suite. The grant will also partially fund a gas-assisted transport table, and an IV warming system.”

“As MCAS expands its lifesaving capacity, and more surgical procedures are performed on shelter animals, Animal Health staff are in need of more specialized and updated equipment to perform their work. We’re grateful to Petco Love for facilitating the purchase of these important resources.”

The MCAS Animal Hospital is AAHA accredited, and includes two full time veterinarians, several on-call veterinarians, and a small staff of veterinary technicians and assistants. The surgery suite sees extensive use, conducting necessary surgeries to save lives and improve the quality of life for shelter animals, and spay & neuter surgeries on all unaltered animals prior to adoption. Low-cost surgeries for public animals through the Animal Shelter Alliance of Portland’s Spay & Save program are also conducted onsite.
